DVDFab Decrypter – User Guide

•March 1, 2007 • Leave a Comment

Installation

The latest version of DVDFab Decrypter can be downloaded from DVDIdle.com.

During the setup, please follow the instructions on the display.

In this first window – select the language that is going to be used during the installation of the program.

Click on the button ‘Finish’ and you are done with your installation and are ready to use the program.

The Enable DMA screen

What is DMA?

It’s short for Direct Memory Access, a technique for transferring data from main memory to a device without passing it through the CPU. Computers that have DMA channels can transfer data to and from devices much more quickly than computers without a DMA channel can.

Even if your device whas set to DMA mode – it can revert to PIO (Programmed Input/Output) mode. PIO mode is much slower than DMA mode.

Enable DMA

If your system should be using PIO mode – DVDFab Decrypter will find this when you start the program and ask you if you want to enable DMA for DVD drive(s) and hard disk(s).

Press the button ‘Enable DMA for DVD drive and hard drive’.

After this you should restart your PC to make DMA mode to be enabled.

The next time you start DVDFab Decrypter this DMA enable window should not appear.

The settings screen

The first time you use the program you will see this screen – the settings screen.

You can also access it from the main program window – if you press this button

  • Language:

You can select your desired language for which the the program texts will be translated into.

  • Check for new version automatically

If you enable this setting – the program will search if there is a new version of the program to be downloaded when you start the program.

  • Remove CSS, RC, RCE, Macrovision, UOPs, ARccOS

Make sure that ‘Remove CSS, RC, RCE, Macrovision, UOPs, ARccOS’ is enabled. The names are different copy protection systems and if you don’t remove them – then your files will still be copy protected.

  • To remove RCE, specify the disc’s region code:

To remove the ‘RCE – Region Code Enhancement’ you also need to check that the program selected the right region code. This is done automatically by the language setting. If you selected language ‘English (United States)’ – the region code should be ‘1 – USA, Canada’.

Running the program

This is the main program window:

  • Insert the DVD you want to backup in your DVD-ROM/DVD-burner.
  • Normally the program will autodetect the device with the inserted DVD.
  • If you want to change the save location of the files – change them manually. The program will always save the DVD in the default ‘DVD’ folder. You can more or less only change if you want the program to save the files to another hard disk. As default the program will use your map ‘My Documents’ as target.
  • The program will ask you if you want to delete your target.

If you want to save your old files – you need to rename the DVD folder to something else – to be able to run a new ripping process without overwriting your old files.

Press ‘Yes’ if you want to overwrite them and ‘No’ if you want to abort the program.

  • After that you have done your settings – press the button ‘Start’ and the ripping process will begin.

  • When the ripping process is done – you will see this window:

  • After that you have pressed the button ‘Finish’ – you will be returned to the main program window again and you are done with your ripping.

DVDFab Decrypter – a freeware decrypter

•March 1, 2007 • Leave a Comment

Introduction:

DVDFab Express is simply the easiest way to copy a DVD movie. Just insert the movie and a blank DVD then press Start. Your entire movie – including menus, trailers and special features – is copied to a single DVD with just one click, and everything happens automatically.

DVDFab Decrypter is a simple version of DVDFab Express. It copies entire DVD movie to hard disk, and removes all the protections (CSS, RC, RCE, Macrovision, UOPs and Sony ARccOS) while copying.

This program is freeware and also updated on a regulary basis to handle new ‘problematic’ DVDs.

Why do I need it?

We all know DVD Decrypter is a great DVD ripper, why we need another one?

Well, the reason is DVD Decrypter’s development has stopped, so it will not support newer version of Sony ARccOS protection automatically. Fortunately, DVDFab Decrypter is always updated to support latest rotection, so you can backup your DVD movies to hard disk as before. For example, Movie ‘Closer’ can’t be copied by DVD Decrypter automatically, but with the help of DVDFab Decrypter, you can copy it without problem.

The program works with DVD Rebuilder, DVD Shrink and Nero Recode 2.

Download the program:

You can download the program for free from DVDIdle.com.

A guide:

I have written a guide for the freeware program DVDFab Decrypter.

System Requirements:

  • Windows Server 2003, XP, 2000, Me, 98, 98SE or Windows NT4.0 SP5+
  • Pentium II 350 MHz or above with 64 MB RAM
  • 1 MB hard disk space for installation

Latest version:

In the upper right corner of the program – you can see these buttons:

If you press the – you can check out your current version.

DVDFab Decrypter – The Best?

•March 1, 2007 • Leave a Comment

“I’ve been using DVD Shrink 3.5.4.0 for quite some time and it has been pretty successful at providig me with “backups”. Every once in a while, I get a DVD that “encounters an invalid DVD format” when I try to read it. When that happens, I then move to DVD decrypter but I usually get one VOB file that just won’t read….after 20 or 30 retries, the program exits and that DVD is not able to copy.

Is there a newer software program that might overcome some newer type of encryption?”

I have found that the usual reason I cannot copy something with DVD Decrypter after many tries, as you describe, is because the disk has a scratch or something that corrupts the file. I then found that DVDFab Decryptor, a free program from dvdidle (see http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm), would do the job. At first I used to keep using DVD Decrytor, which has more options, like picking which files to download whereas DVDFab Decryptor does only one thing, downloads the whole disk. But after a while I decided it wasn’t worth the trouble to copy 3/4 of a disk just to have it hang up near the end, and now I use DVDFab Decryptor for all my DVD copying. The direct link to the program is http://209.172.35.173/download/DVDFabDecrypter29.exe. It’s about 1.2 mB.

To add a little more detail:

DVDFab Decryptor seems to skip over the bad parts after taking time to try several times to copy them, like DVD Decryptor does. That’s just my guess as to what is happening, because you don’t see much of anything in the small program screen except a bar showing how much has been accomplished, but because it takes so long.

The finished product may then have a skip or two in the movie, but you get it. This seems analagous to what happens when you play such a disk in a DVD player — there may be a skip or two but you get to keep watching the movie.

The long times I was experiencing when I first used DVDFab Decryptor I found out were only because I was just using it when DVD Decryptor wouldn’t work at all. After I started using it all the time, I think it takes the same amount of time with a good disk as DVD Decryptor. Although I haven’t done any actual time tests.

DVDFab Decrypter Latest Version Opinions

DVDFab Decrypter Latest Version Opinions:

“Great stuff,3070 combined with 3.2 shrink Saw III was done in less than 25 minutes.”

“Simply the best, used the free version for about a week then purchased the platinum version, excellent app, does what it says on the tin.”

“A false positive is another way of saying ‘mistake’. As applied to the field of anti-virus programs, a false positive occurs when the program mistakenly flags an innocent file as being infected. This may seem harmless enough, but false positives can be a real nuisance.”

“DVDFab Decrypter has been a perfect tool for me, until yesterday Kaspersky Antivirus deleted version 3.0.5.0 from my system:

Event type: Virus detected
Severity: Critical
Application: Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations
Version: 5.0.228
Task name: Real-time files protection
Time: Tuesday, January 02, 2007 08:54:23
Description: Object C:Program FilesDVDFab Decrypter 3DVDFabDecrypter.exe is infected with the virus Backdoor.Win32.DSNX.05.a

I hope that the next version is free from malware again.”

“Simple and effective.”

“The console has no option to convert a DVD to a hard drive file. This would be confusing to newbies. I selected a folder in my hard drive for DVDFab Decrypter to place the decrypted movie. Reading some of the other newbie remarks, some people don’t know that a program such as DVDFab Decrypter only decrypts to .vob and .ifo files and they have to then be converted to .avi, either divx or xvid, using a different program. These processes could be explained a little further, either on the download page or in a readme for DVDFab Decrypter. My ratings reflect this because I remember how confusing it was to find programs and learn what needed to be done when I was a newbie. It’s not just experienced people who need these programs.

I tried to free copyright and protections on a DVD using several different programs . . . ImTOO (it converted the movie but the audio and video weren’t in sync), DVD Decrypter to decrypt then AutoGK to convert to .avi (AutoGK couldn’t compress the file), and Movavi Video Suite 1.1 (which gave me a message that stated that Movavi does not copy copyrighted or protected DVDs or CDs. My next choice was FabDVD Decrypter. I updated it to 3.0.3.5, ran the DVD through FabDVD Decrypter and it said “Process completed successfully,” the same as DVD Decrypter. When I ran the 5 .vob files through AutoGK in order to convert them to an .avi file I received the message that “Video compression error: The source image format is not acceptable.” Exactly what this means, I don’t know, nor do I know what needs to be done to make the image format acceptable.

Whether this is a failure on the part of DVDFab Decrypter or AutoGK, I don’t know that either. I’ve always used AutoGK but maybe a program other than AutoGK will be able to convert it to an .avi file with no compression problems.”

This tool bailed me out of a situation neither DVDShrink nor DVD Decrypter could–copying a DVD made by a brand new SONY DVD Recorder from a VHS I own the rights to. I made the grim discovery just last night that the RDR VX530 recorder produces DVDs that get the “Invalid Navigation Structure” error using DVDShrink.

Many of the solutions suggested at the digital digest site ( http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45459) did not work for me, but this one did.

I’m not really clear on whether this “Invalid Navigation” error message was caused by ARccOS encryption or if that’s just what happens with DVDs recorded this way (DVD RAM as opposed to ROM).
If SONY is encrypting these disks, then it’s an affront to consumers who may be making perfectly legitimate copies of their own material. In any event, I’m thankful that a tool like this is available to get around this.”

“3.0.3.8 Beta crashes on Davinci Code R2 – Disc one (Germany).
3.0.3.5 Also crashes on Davinci Code R2 – Disk one (Germany) in full disc mode but completes successfully in movie only mode.
Disc two reacted the same way but did not test it completely.

STILL a terrific tool…..keep up the GREAT work guys.”

“It seems that this program developers periodically screw up the conversion (see history of updates, every couple of versions there is “gives trouble with DVDShrink or jerky video” or something like that). Then it gets fixed, then the same problem reappears in the next version, then fixed, then reappears… Why? I just spent several hours backing-up a collection of dvd’s just to realize that DVDShrink cannnot see them now and I can’t even play the files on my computer (and FixVTS does not work either). Come on guys! I know it is a free tool (and we’re very thankful for that), but why can’t these “periodic” problems dissapear once and for all???”

“Great free program but I have just updated to version 3.0.2.8 and I am still getting error 400 during analysing on some DVD’s.”

“This tool enable me to rip a DVD that can not even be browsed by windows explorer. Do not have to say anything more!”

“Versions 2.* provided a GUI in many modern languages.
I sincerely hope that version 3.* – which currently only provides an English GUI – will soon be extended with the multi language support. It’ll save me a few cumbersome explanation sessions with my father-in-law.

For the rest: my ratings say enough.
Excellent DVD-backup tool.”

Will not work on my Windows 98SE platform. My last working version for 98 was 2.9.8.2.
The new program installs, but when trying to open it, gives an error message that it must close down. I can’t figure a way to bypass that popup. There’s a conflict somewhere, but I can’t figure it out.

Installed it in my Windows XP Home SP2 and it works fine.

Rating is for Windows 98SE attempt only. XP scored 10 in all areas.

Works excellent and completely foolproof. Ripped a disk that the newest version of AnyDVD couldn’t handle, and that’s not freeware. Haven’t run into any DVD I couldn’t back up using this program to rip, DVD Shrink to shrink, and Nero to burn.

Great freeware!!! Thanks DVDFab Decrypter!!!

Will purchase the Platinum Edition. Would be nice to have an “all-in-one” solution again. Being able to rip, compress, and burn DVDs to single-layer DVD-R, or burn original quality to dual-layer with a minimum of “fiddling”, sounds just TOO tempting. Especially after seeing how good the freeware is!!!

I have purchased DVDFab Express and must say, it is the most
awesome program I have ever purchased. I used the free version,
and then read about and downloaded the thirty day trial.
After burning two disks, I paid gladly for the program.
NOTHING COULD BE EASIER !

I have used DVD Decrypter without problems for a long, long, time, but found recently that it was having unexplainable problems with some discs (more often than not, those which had something to do with Sony). I tried this and it’s worked perfectly on all 5 discs that I’d not previously been able to back up. Excellent.

DVD Fab Decrypter no longer free?

•March 1, 2007 • Leave a Comment

“Went to upgrade to 3.0.3.x and see it is now a trial version. Good for 30 days. What’s up? Hope I’m reading something wrong.”

“Yep, it is payware now.”

“I just now downloaded it http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm and installed it … it is not saying anything about … costing me anything … I click the about button and it says …. Free Edition”

“Are you sure you didn’t download DVDFab – as opposed to DVDFab DeCryptor?
DVDFab DeCryptor 3035 still looks free to me.”

“I installed the newest version last night, and I saw no indication of a trial version.”

“Something weird here! Check out www.dvdfab.com vs www.dvdidle.com”

“Make sure you use the correct links. There are versions of software with adware attached to them. Make sure you are getting the download from a reliable source.”

“This is the link for the free DVDFab Decrypter: http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm It is strange that DVDFab Decrypter does not also appear on www.dvdfab.com. I did a whois check and found both sites are registered to HiChina Web Solutions with Shen Lanny (lanny@dvdidle.com) as a common point of contact.”

“Sounds like a sign of things to come. DVD Fab Decrypter may not be free much longer. This appears be their transition period. I want my DVD Decrypter back!”

“First dvdfab decryptor is still very much free….dvdfab platinum or gold is a trial they look the same as decryptor but have there extra functions enabled.

“If you go to the http://www.dvdidle.com/ website, they list the now-NOT-free DVDFab Platinum, Express, and Gold versions of their software.
However, at the bottom of the page is a text link that says “Free Stuff.”
Click on it. There you find the latest version of DVDFab Decrypter (Ver. 3.0.5.5) which has a post date of 01/11/2007.
I wonder why they don’t list the free version along with their for-sale versions?

“Probably because they are in a business to make money and they would rather you buy their main products. AVG does similar and sort of ‘hides’ their freeware version of their antivirus. The free programs like DVDFab Decrypter are just a sideline. And it always helps to send companies and authors a thank you note to show that you appreciate their freeware and to encourage them to continue to maintain it.”

DVDFab Decryptor Review

•March 1, 2007 • Leave a Comment

DVDFab Decryptor is a VERY simple program. It just copies the entire dvd structure to your hard drive. It does this fairly well. But, you have NO control over the process. You select the region, the dvd, and the folder to rip to on your hard drive. Press the button, and it does its thing. It’s supported and updated to handle new protections. I realize we’re all spoiled with DVDD and all, but, this product IS free so you really can’t ask for too much.

Opinions & Reviews:

“This Program is very easy for creating private copy of dvd.
I have tested more copy-software, this program can better, faster and simpler.
After copy, I edit with another program (size of dvd).”

“I use 3035. I find it v good , but it will not copy a DVD thats a copy , should it I don’t know. would welcome any comments.”

“I have been using dvd fab express 2.9.7 for nearly a year and I have had no problems at all. I use it with dvd shrink and dvd decrypter. I searched through dvd copy forums for 2 days befor I decided to download it. The most success that I ran across that people had was with dvd fab and dvd shrink. I have not had one movie that didn’t work.”

“It has worked where others have failed. Seems to be updated quickly and if used with other program like DVD Shrink or Nero Recode it works great for making a flawless working copy of your DVD movies. I just purchased Underworld Evolution and not only did it do a great job of decryption for my backup disc, it also did it quicker than any other program I have used.”

“Some new DVD movies I wanted to backup, they were having various protections that neither with DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter or by any other help sked from forums could bypass them. With that program, the the entire movie was copied in my HDisk and I managed to read it from there with DVD Shrink normally. The only bad thing was the large capacity it required for the movie processing (original DVD and the backed up DVD). Supports many languages, it is free, fast and very user friendly.”

“Simply the easiest way to copy a DVD movie.”

“I tried to do that. Should be a “piece of cake” for a program that marks the pinnacle of easy DVD movie copying, right? Well, it copied and decrypted to the hard-drive just fine. Unfortunately I was left with 7.something GB worth of data that wouldn’t copy to my standard DVD-R disk. So it didn’t let me copy a movie, but what about features and tools. Oh, there aren’t any. So I’m back to using other tools to do the task that DVDFab proclaims is so simple. For simple DVD copying, try DVD Shrink. Hard to beat that one. For everything else, looks like I’m back to DVD Decryptor.”
